China, India and South Africa bid for 2011 IKF World Championship

[Saturday, 09 June 2007]
Three countries have made formal bids to host the 2011 IKF World Championship. The national korfball associations of India, China, and South Africa have submitted their bids. The set of countries reflects the strength of korfball in three fast-developing countries.
India has already hosted a previous edition of the IKF World Championship, in 1995, while South Africa has previously hosted the IKF World Youth Championship in 2001. India and South Africa are both ranked in the world's top-20, while China only recently joined the IKF as a member, and has recently qualified for the World Championship to elevate their world ranking.
The Executive Committee today appointed an Evaluation Committee consisting of its members Graham Crafter (GBR), Helen Searle (AUS), and Henk Welmers (NED) to further evaluate the bids. A decision on the host will be taken by the Council of the IKF in November 2007.
